TEDxMaui 2013: Kamea Hadar

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Kamea Hadar (one of a1000x favorites) spoke on TEDxMaui recently about the inner workings of Pow Wow Hawaii and what art truly brings the community. This is exactly the type of energy and passion that inspired our own website. It's a very inspirational video that really shows how art affects the community and brings people closer at the same time.

Congratulations to Kamea and Pow Wow Hawaii for all their success! Can't wait for next year.

Here's a few pictures of Kamea and his work. Definitely check him out!

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

I know this post is a little overdue, but here is a recap of our annual artist egg dye event in preparation for Easter. While I couldn't post all the pictures, here are a few of my favorites.

When Easter comes around, we don't mess around.

Hope the rest of you guys had a great holiday weekend!

Chef Wanted

Thursday, March 14, 2013

A few months ago I attended a background crowd taster for Food Network's Chef Wanted at the beautiful restaurant OLA at the Turtle Bay Resort.

Tonight was the debut airing of the episode and I got to enjoy the show with restaurant owner Fred DeAngelo (right) and the Chef Wanted victor and new executive chef, Casey Barnes (left). I am thankful to enjoy world class food and great company. Can't thank the DeAngelo's enough for their hospitality. Stop by OLA for a culinary experience you will never forget.

7th Annual Luxury Row Celebration of the Arts

Friday, November 02, 2012

Luxury Row hosted its 7th Annual Celebration of the Arts last night to highlight the work of "Hawaii's Modern Masters", including a1000x's very own John Koga and Ryan Higa

These exclusive pieces of work from Koga and Higa (Gruntled Funk) were displayed at Waikiki luxury retailers Chanel and Coach, respectively. Last night's opening was something spectacular and I can't wait for next year. If you missed it, all the amazing work will still be open for display from Nov. 1st to Dec. 2nd.

For your viewing pleasure.

Estria & Prime Kaka'ako Mural

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

On Monday night September 12, I watched Prime, Estria and other graffiti artists paint their new upcoming mural on the wall across from the closed down Pipeline Cafe. The mural was made for Kamehameha Schools as a way to spread art and culture through the community. The scene was very chill and laid back. Barbecue and painting with friends, what could be better? Watching the precision detail and focus of the artists at work gave me an extreme respect for what they do. I'm looking forward to seeing and hopefully being a part of more events like this in the future.

2011 Estria Graffiti Battle

Sunday, September 04, 2011

Saturday September 3rd, 2011. Today I had the pleasure of attending the 2011 Estria Graffiti Battle, at the Academy of Arts in Honolulu. There were artists from all around the country went head to head to for the chance to get into the finals and then ultimately win the battle. Artists like Prime, Aaron Martin, and Estria himself were there. Today's word or theme was "hanau" which means birth in Hawaiian. There is also all sorts of entertainment including dance offs, food vendors, workshops and booths. The caliber of talent at this event was unreal and if you have a chance to attend anything organized by Prime or Estria, I would highly recommend that you go. We left completely inspired.
