On Monday night September 12, I watched Prime, Estria and other graffiti artists paint their new upcoming mural on the wall across from the closed down Pipeline Cafe.
The mural was made for Kamehameha Schools as a way to spread art and culture through the community. The scene was very chill and laid back. Barbecue and painting with friends, what could be better?
Watching the precision detail and focus of the artists at work gave me an extreme respect for what they do. I'm looking forward to seeing and hopefully being a part of more events like this in the future.
Saturday September 3rd, 2011. Today I had the pleasure of attending the 2011 Estria Graffiti Battle, at the Academy of Arts in Honolulu. There were artists from all around the country went head to head to for the chance to get into the finals and then ultimately win the battle. Artists like Prime, Aaron Martin, and Estria himself were there. Today's word or theme was "hanau" which means birth in Hawaiian. There is also all sorts of entertainment including dance offs, food vendors, workshops and booths. The caliber of talent at this event was unreal and if you have a chance to attend anything organized by Prime or Estria, I would highly recommend that you go. We left completely inspired.
